You have large areas of tinder-dry brush… hundreds of square miles above Santa Barbara. So you have all that fuel, and warm temps. When the winds blow like this, all it takes is a spark. The Santa Ana winds are warm, dry winds that are PERFECT for making fire.
I’m watching this on TV, with dozens and dozens of mansions burning. Most of them are at least 3-5 million. (I’m familiar with the real estate in the area). They could easily lose a billion in real estate before morning.

OK, it’s morning. 100+ homes lost, times an average of 2.5 million per home = 250 million in real estate. Looks like I overshot, guessing that the average was 5 million, and 200 homes would be lost. Hey, it was dark.
