I lived in Chicago 1999-2004.
In a nice Polish neighnorhood with lots of old bubbas and neighborhood stores.
Blue collar, friendly and cheap.
Went back in 07, it was all taken over by Latin gangs.
Chicago is dead.

Oprah didn’t say anything about the Olympics because the city was vying for the Summer Olympics. It’s not freezing in the summer. Her other alleged remarks about Chicago sound rather dubious. Oprah is not a stupid woman and I doubt she would alienate her Chicago supporters.

The answer to your question is easy…She lost respect of people there because the city tried to bend over backwards for her but she was a (put a B in front) a itch. She staged a Michigan Avenue birthday party for her self with the cities approval, it was a go if she lent her help to seeking a Olympic bid. She instead ignored the agreement. The city then refused every other interest she has expressed to them. She is spoiled and his losing her audience in Chicago and thinks she can go to the cable network and find a syndicated audience on that channel. Oprah’s days where numbered because she is a fake !

Ask the people of Michigan what happened with their whole state after Detroit collapsed. Ask people in the midwest how the decline and collapsing of their big city metros has affected the whole midwest economy.
See what would happen to Texas if you took away Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso.

See what would happen to California if you took away San Diego, L.A., S.F.
The wealthiest, most productive, and best educated areas of America are it’s big city/metro areas.
The question is why do Americans foolishly allow them to be over-run. In much of the rest of the world, it’s the opposite. The cities thrive, the slums are in the suburbs.
Finally, the Roman Empire collapsed when the Romans abandoned Rome, running and hiding out in r
ural walled villas. Sound familiar?

I hear you. There’s Boston neighborhood that up until 10 years ago was a similar working class primarily Italian American hood. Today it’s COMPLETELY over-run by Central American gangs. Crime has exploded. I saw one drunk dude on the subway with a machete strapped to the inside of his leg. A machete fight occurred during evening rush-hour IN FRONT OF city hall! The dudes came from this neighborhood. It’s insane and the changes have occurred very quickly.
